Letters to Grady February 28, 2011

Good morning sweet boy!

I cannot believe it is the very last day of February already! Time is just flying by since you arrived in our lives...We had a great week with you. It is so fun to see all of the new things you are doing. The latest is that you will shake your head "no" to Grandpa every time he looks at you:-) It doesn't matter if he is talking to you or just looking in your direction - as soon as you see him your head just starts to go back and forth telling him NO! haha I love it:-) We saw Pop Lew this weekend too and he is the only other person that you will consistently shake your head at too other than Grandpa.

You are officially TEETHING. I know we said it started last weekend but NOW you have sharp little things coming right through your gums...You are going to look like a different baby with little teeth coming out of your smile! But you are stuffy (for the first time since you were born) and do NOT like us wiping your snots off your face etc...you seem to be a little stubborn - and I keep telling Daddy that it is his fault - but really - let's be serious I am pretty sure that came from me! haha

Molly and Maddy's sleepover was exhausting because Maddy was too preoccupied to listen much and Molly is pretty much so interested in you that we had a hard time keeping her off of you :-) But I guess it is never a bad thing that you are more than loved!! We did have fun though once everything settled down. We took everyone to the Ciccotti Center to go swimming and you and Daddy lounged around the lazy river and you almost fell asleep laying on the noodles!! You are just a chilled out little baby and we just adore you.

You are also starting to look right in the direction of someone when we ask you "Where is Daddy/Grandpa/Grandma/Sue Sue?" You know exactly who we are talking about and you are just so SMART!

One last thing for now - you are eating EVERYTHING that isn't nailed down! I love how brave you are with trying new things. You had some more vanilla ice cream for dessert at Grandma's house last night. I am going to have to get a second job in order to feed you when you get a little bigger!!

Daddy was plowing for most of this weekend. He misses you so much when he is gone. In the 8.5 months since you were born we have had the most extreme weather that I can remember. It has been 85-90 degrees since the day you were born for ALL OF THE SUMMER. And then once winter has hit us it has been bitter cold with extreme low temps and for the whole 2 months of Jan/Feb we have been buried with HUGE snow storms - one right after the other. I welcome the extreme warm temps....but this cold weather is for the birds!!

I love you more than the anticipation of the first 60 degree day of the spring!!

Letter to Grady February 21, 2011

Good Morning my sweet boy!

Let's see...what has happened since the last time I wrote to you? Well, Grandpa had surgery last week on Tuesday (the day you turned 8 months old - how the heck that happened so fast I will never know). Grandpa is fine. But he was very sore and cranky for most of last week. So far, he has not smoked since being out of the hospital ... and I am hoping that you will be the motivation for him to not start it up again. Time will tell. You were an awesome little baby while all of our schedules went haywire trying to help Grandpa out. Have I mentioned how much I LOVE you for just "rolling with the punches"?? haha

We had a pretty low key weekend. Although you went to your FIRST birthday party (for someone that you are not related to)!!! It was very exciting. It was for Kevin McNally (Gail's grandson) and it was a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse themed party...YOUR FAVORITE! You sat in a high chair right next to Kevin and were SUCH a good boy - all you cared about was how fast I could feed you your cake and ice cream (another first for you by the way!) You loved it - as we knew you would. There really hasn't been anything that we have given you to eat thus far that you haven't liked - EXCEPT for peas - but who can blame you there? So there were about 3 or 4 other little kids at the party and I think you were the youngest by about a month and every other baby was moving around pretty good (crawling, walking etc). You are very mobile - you just refuse to actually crawl and would rather be standing while holding onto something or walking while holding someone's hands! It is only a matter of time though!

Sometime on Sunday of this weekend you started to "teethe". You couldn't be consoled no matter what anyone did. You are biting on your fingers, toys and binkies like it will be the last thing you ever do...and you are constantly chewing on your lower lip and you look like a little old man without any teeth when you do that:-) If we pick you up and try to do something with you that you DO NOT want to do at that moment - you sob. If we put you down - you sob. If you are happily playing with something and the mood strikes you - you start to sob! This is the absolute opposite of what your personality normally is...so there is something going on with you. We assume it is teething since you don't have any teeth yet and you are 8 months and 1 week old...but it could also be a growth spurt or a little cold too. You have yet to really be "sick" and you have had your first runny nose/mild congestion for about a week or so. Who knows. You are our "trial and error" baby:-) haha We will all figure it out together.

We went to Sunday dinner at Uncle Leo's house and you put on an eating display for everyone with your pasta and meatballs...to the point that almost everyone at the table asked us if we fed you on a regular basis! haha It was really funny - but it made us second guess ourselves about whether you really were getting enough to eat...And for this response I will refer to the previous paragraph about "trial and error"!!

Monday was worse than Sunday in the teething department...That's all I have to say about that! More of the same with being cranky. Tuesday morning you woke up very happy though - and didn't want to go back to sleep for Daddy after your morning feeding. (you and Daddy get to spend the week together because he is off for winter break) So Daddy sat you down in your crib so he could go get something from the kitchen and I was putting my makeup on in the bathroom so I peeked in at you and you were STANDING up in the crib!! Soooooo Daddy made me order your new crib as soon as I got to work today. You are getting to be more and more of a little monkey! We love you so much and can't believe how big you are getting SOOOOO fast!

OH! And I almost forgot - your newest thing is to shake your head "no" to everyone and everything! Sometimes you use it in context and sometimes you just decided to start shaking your head "no" for no apparent reason...it is really funny! We are having your first sleepover tonight with Molly and Maddy. It should be so fun - and hopefully Molly doesn't drop you on your head with how many times she will be holding you! I'll let you know how that goes.

That's it for now sweet pea...

I love you more than the smell of the first fresh cut grass of the summer,
Mommy

Letter to Grady February 9, 2011

So today is Wednesday, February 9, 2011...and all I can say is you are getting SO BIG. All you want to do right now is stand up while holding onto ANYTHING you can get your hands on. You will be 8 months old in about a week and I have no idea where the time has gone:-( You love love love to eat, you are generally a super happy baby and most importantly - you sleep through the night (and you have since you were about 5 weeks old) which makes mommy and daddy SO much more pleasant to deal with on a daily basis.

I went to NYC yesterday with Grandma, Aunt Meghan and our friend Gail to see a talk show called The Rachael Ray Show and we didn't end up getting in. But we did make the most of the day and walked around and shopped for most of the day. You got to spend the day with Daddy and Pop...Pop was down on the floor playing with you a lot and he was loving every minute of it. You went to lunch with them and ate some of Daddy's sandwich - haha - he doesn't part with his food easily - but somehow you manage to get him to do it with a smile.

I will post a little more about some of your milestones from the past...but for now you are doing the following things already: sitting up unassisted (you have been doing that for almost 2 months now), rolling over (started that at 5 months old), army crawling (just recently started this - but you prefer to just roll back and forth to get you to your destination). You don't really have any interest in crawling...you just want to stand up and hold onto things and side step/walk around. Your legs have been strong since you were born - abnormally strong. And while you were still in the hospital after you were born - you lifted your head off my shoulder and turned it from one side to the other!! You pulled yourself into a standing position about 2 weeks ago without any help from us while you were 2 feet away from me sitting on the shelf of the pack n play and used the side of the PNP to pull yourself up! Let me just say - you startled me with that one. You are very very head strong!! And I have NO IDEA where you get that from! haha

You love to smile and laugh - your Daddy is the best at making you do both of those things because there is nothing that he doesn't do to turn himself inside out to get a laugh out of you. Grandma tries very hard - but it only works some of the time for her...although you do smile/laugh when she is changing your diaper and you pee on her (it happens more regularly than she would like to admit)...she watches you 4 days a week while Mommy is at work but I still get to spend all day on Wednesdays with you...which I look forward to every week!

We took you swimming at the Ciccotti Center a few times in the last couple of weeks. You did get in Pop's pool when you were ITTY BITTY...but you basically just fell asleep floating on the water. You do love the water though - and you walk right into it while holding our hands and then sit on our lap and splash splash splash! You get a little chilly but it only takes a couple of minutes to adjust for you to get really into it! I can't wait for this summer to see you in action at Pop's house!

Grandpa calls you BUG-A-BOO...and if history is any indication...I am sure he will call you that for as long as you let him. He loves you too - he just has a harder time of showing it.

Aunt Meghan calls you Crazy Baby. Daddy (and sometimes Mommy) call you Bubba...I am hoping that changes soon to G or Gray or something better than Bubba...we don't want to give you a complex this early in your life:-)

And I think as I wrap this up for today - I just want to tell you that you and your Daddy are the most important things in my life and I am so thankful for you every.single.day. And I am going to try and let you know that every day. I am so scared that I am going to not do right by you with showing you HOW to show emotions - so that is a promise that I make to you - I will fix that for both of us. If you need to learn before I am able to teach you - just watch your Daddy - he seems to already have it all figured out!!

I love you more than Opening Day of baseball season for the Yankees!

Mommy
