Letters to Grady and Callen June12, 2013

OMG Where has this year gone?  I can't believe I am writing this to you 3 days before you (Grady) are turning 3!!!  Nin you are not too far behind (3 more weeks until you are 1).  It has been a crazy year ... I have learned so much about both of your personalities!  WOW....Grady you are so much like your Daddy with your laid back no worries attitude ... and Nin - well let's just say you were blessed(cursed?) with my personality! TBD whether that is a good thing or not:-)

This time last year all I was worried about was getting through Grady's birthday party without going into labor.  We made it.  You are both so fun to watch together already.  Grady is constantly trying to tackle Callen and there is rarely a day when Nin doesn't have a red mark (or 5) on him from Grady's rough housing.  I walked into your room the other morning and found Grady had opened the crib tent, climbed in with Nin and then was frantically trying to zip it back up before I caught him. Hilarious!

Callen you have 4 teeth (2 top and 2 bottom). You constantly zerbert (pbbttttt) with your tongue at anything and everything. Including when you are eating your purees.  All.Over.Everything.  Every.Single.Time.

Grady - you are obsessed with "White Doggie" and "Red Doggie".  But recently proclaimed after you trapped Mattie in your room that she was your "best good dog".  You told her out of the blue one day recently that you "love her":-) So sweet.  Whenever you see daddy after he gets home from doing lawns or coming home from work you say "Hi Daddy-O".  We sing you Take me Out To The Ballgame or You Are My Sunshine before you go to bed and at the end of it you always say to me "Mommy I won't take your Sunshine" ... Could you get any sweeter??

Callen - you are a momma's boy.  Maybe you will grow out of this and maybe I will look back on this and remember it fondly too....but for right now you are a pain in mommy's tush! :-)  You have the LOUDEST cry/cackle when you don't get your way..and most of the time you just want mommy to sing to you while you rest your head on her shoulder before I lay you down in the crib for the night.  Also, you don't miss a meal...or anyone else's meal!  haha You are constantly on the move and I am actually shocked that you haven't started walking yet.  Any day now - I am sure.

Grady you are still loving being outside on the trampoline and also mowing the lawn with daddy. You just found a frog when you were mowing last week and proceeded to stick your smelly hands into my nose to show me how you had held him.

Callen you follow Grady anywhere he will let you and you let him do things to you that I would expect you to scream out of pain - but you just laugh and let him do it again.  He is really one of the only people that can stop you from crying on a dime once you get going unnecessarily!

I never knew just how much it was possible to love two people unconditionally.  You two have shown me how to look in the mirror everyday and re-evaluate my self worth simply because I had the ability to create (with your daddy) such perfection in both of you.

I love you more than being able to stay home all summer with you and your daddy!!

Letters to Grady October 16, 2012

Hello there Sweet Boy!!

I suppose it has been a long time again since I have written to you.  And to top it all off - this will be my last letter written only to you!! You are a big brother now so I will write to you and Callen together from now on, but I wanted to write one final letter just to you.

I was just reviewing the last letter I sent to you - and it is so funny that I was writing how many teeth you actually had - since you have a FULL mouth of teeth now:-)  Let's see...you turned TWO on June 15, 2012 and the theme to your party was sesame street.  I made Elmo, Oscar and Cookie Monster cupcakes for dessert and they came out kinda cute!  You have been thoroughly obsessed with Elmo for the better part of this year!  Every night before bed - I would waddle (since I was pregnant with Callen) into your bedroom and sing Snuggle Puppy, Peter Cottontail, Take Me Out to the Ballgame and Elmo's World to you - in no particular order - before you went to sleep.  We set up your big boy bed sometime in March or April and we just would give you the choice of which bed you wanted to sleep in.  Most of the time you chose your crib - but once you figured out that if you went to sleep in the big boy bed you could get up in the middle of the night and crawl into bed with us - the choice was made for you:-)  And in true Grady fashion - the transition was made. (Just like switching to sippy cup from nursing bottles and no more binkys etc). You started gymnastics in March and LOVE it - and since you loved the trampoline so much Daddy went out and bought you one for the backyard!  You were still learning how to pronounce some things so when you wanted to go out on the trampoline and Jump Jump you asked Daddy to go "Ging Ging" with you!!! haha

We worried that you were going to have a hard time transitioning into being a big brother and having to share Mommy and Daddy but from the moment you walked into the hospital to see Mommy and Baby you strutted right in and said "Hi Mommy" (not Mom Mom like you were calling me) and climed right up on the bed to look into the bassinet to see Callen...and proceeded to hold out your arms and asked us if you could "hold him"??  You have been a God send with the baby. You can't exactly say Callen yet - so you started calling him Nin and then it became Nin Nin - and that has kind of stuck!!! He wasn't the easiest of newborns and while Mommy and Daddy were in the other room begging for him to stop crying and wailing - you were as patient as ever with him and rocked him and shushed him and gave him his binky any time he needed/wanted it!!! You are constantly showering him with kisses and include him in everything that you do!

You also started going to Miss Lori's full time so Nan Nan could watch Callen for us.  You are learning SO SO fast with all of the other kids there to learn from (Samantha, Missy, Matt, Jack and Max). You can count to almost 20!! And right now, you are loving the movies Hop (E.B.) and all of the IpMunks (Alvin & the Chipmunks) movies!!

You totally understand the Santa thing this year - but you do NOT want Santa to come to your house - only Nan Nan's house!! haha  You already have that one figured out!!  I am going to sign off on this for now but I will write to you next week and that will be your first letter that you get from me to both of you together!!

Grady, I love you to the moon and back!!!

Love you more than a sunny warm day in the middle of October!!

Letters to Grady September 29, 2011

OK so it has been FOREVER since I wrote you a letter so this one might be a long one ...or else I will break it up into a few semi-long letters! Let me see how far back I can remember...well - you started walking about a week or so before your 1st birthday. We knew it was just going to happen "overnight" and it did. You have had strong legs since you were WEEKS old. But you took your time to decide when you were going to start walking to make sure you were steady on your feet and that you got it right! It is so fun to see all of the things that you learn on a daily basis. You love love love going to Grandma and Grandpa's house. (they watch you during the week while mommy and daddy are at work). Grandma refuses to realize that now that you are walking - she doesn't need to hold your hand and walk you everywhere. You get VERY frustrated with her and always try to pull your hand out of hers so you can do things independently!! haha
We had a wedding to go to the Saturday after you turned 1 (Cara and Corey's!!). So that was your very first "sleepover" without mommy and daddy:-( You LOVED it. You stayed with Colleen and Patrick and Molly and Maddy. I think they loved it as much as you did! So since the wedding was that Saturday - we had your party Saturday June 25th. Everyone (friends and family) all came to see you and celebrate with you on this HUGE milestone! We had Uncle Bryan's bouncy house, which you loved! We had a pinata (a fire truck for Uncle Brent) and you loved that simply because it involved you swinging a bat. Swinging a bat (even a fake one with your hands clasped together) is something that you are OBSESSED with. The swing even comes with sounds effects ("enh")!! and then you "run the bases"!! Hilarious and mommy and daddy didn't even teach that to you! You prefer to watch the yankee games over sesame street - which is probably odd for a 1 yr old but I LOVE IT:-)
We took you to Yankee Stadium over the summer for a gift for Grandpa for Father's Day. We went on Sunday July 31st. Meghan, Chad, Grandma, Grandpa, Mommy and Daddy all went. You got to ride the train from White Plains and you were SO GOOD I couldn't even believe it. It was GOD awful HOT out and as soon as you got out of your stroller and saw the field a smile lit up your face. You even joined in "role call" out in the bleachers especially when they called "De-rek Je-ter"!!! You slept through about 4 innings and then woke up and happily sat in Grandpa's arm seat and watched and clapped and yelled along with everyone!
We also went to Maine in August for 4 days and guess what? You LOVE the ocean (much to mommy's fish dismay!) And you love sand...so much that you ate it and "swam" in it! You had so much fun with Teige and Willie and all of the kids. You came home from that vacation a "chatterbox" of noise. No words yet except for "mom" "Da-ddyyyyy" and the occasional "mattie" but being around the kids made you test out your vocals a lot more!
You started going to Miss Lori's house for babysitting towards the end of August - just to give Grandma and Grandpa a little break. You go to Lori's Tues/Thurs and G & G's M/W/F. You love it at Lori's except for the "dropping off" part! You C.R.Y. every time Mommy drops you off - which in turn makes Mommy cry...but it is getting better every time. You love her son Nick (23 yrs old) and there is a 2 yr old Samantha there too that you play with. I have a feeling you will be there until you start school!! :-)
You went to your 15 month appt on September 21st and got 4 shots:-( You then proceeded to tell Dr. Peterson "bold bold bold" with the shaking of your finger!! You were over it pretty quickly though and you had NO side effects at all after those shots. I think that is a first! You weighed 22lbs 6oz. And you are 33 1/2 inches tall. We also took you to Hoffman's playland for the first time on Saturday September 24th (Grandma's b-day) and you loved every crazy ride and you went on every one of them that you could by yourself!!! Then since it wasn't quite a complete day yet - we decided it would be a good day to get your first haircut too!! You were SO GOOD and you look like such a little boy now instead of a baby. MOMMY'S BABY!! I am going to try to post some pics of those two events. OK maybe later! haha
We ran a 5k with you in the stroller over the summer too and you loved it - and actually it was up at Saratoga Race Track and you were nominated "baby with the best hair" by the announcer since your hair looked like a mohawk! haha Then you got to see the horses and you went crazy with your "giddy up horsie" gallop. So that prompted us to bring you up to the Track for a day and you LOVED that too! There isn't really much that you don't love or "roll with". You are so laid back - thank God you got that from your Daddy!!! Remind me to thank him for that!

Ok I am going to get back to work - but I am going to be better about writing to you. About all of the new things that you are doing. OH! One last thing - you currently have 6 teeth (4 top 2 bottom) but you have been "Teething" forEVER and I think you are actually getting molars on the bottom...time will tell!!

Love you as much as the Yankees making the playoffs and the Red Sox going HOME for the season,

Mommy

Letters to Grady March 1, 2011

Hello Sweet Pea!

Your new crib arrived last night:-)!!! It came with no time to spare. You had started walking around the whole perimeter of your old crib yesterday while Daddy was putting together the new one! You are becoming more and more of a monkey as the days go by. We put you down in the new crib and you went right to sleep. However, this morning you woke up - didn't make a peep to let us know you were awake - and just started to pull yourself to a standing position to pick right up where you left off last night:-) haha I think it is just a matter of days for you to be officially crawling and possible walking (assisted)...you are on the move and there is no slowing you down! Crib tent will be put into affect by this weekend!

I love you more than sleeping in!

Letters to Grady February 28, 2011

Good morning sweet boy!

I cannot believe it is the very last day of February already! Time is just flying by since you arrived in our lives...We had a great week with you. It is so fun to see all of the new things you are doing. The latest is that you will shake your head "no" to Grandpa every time he looks at you:-) It doesn't matter if he is talking to you or just looking in your direction - as soon as you see him your head just starts to go back and forth telling him NO! haha I love it:-) We saw Pop Lew this weekend too and he is the only other person that you will consistently shake your head at too other than Grandpa.

You are officially TEETHING. I know we said it started last weekend but NOW you have sharp little things coming right through your gums...You are going to look like a different baby with little teeth coming out of your smile! But you are stuffy (for the first time since you were born) and do NOT like us wiping your snots off your face etc...you seem to be a little stubborn - and I keep telling Daddy that it is his fault - but really - let's be serious I am pretty sure that came from me! haha

Molly and Maddy's sleepover was exhausting because Maddy was too preoccupied to listen much and Molly is pretty much so interested in you that we had a hard time keeping her off of you :-) But I guess it is never a bad thing that you are more than loved!! We did have fun though once everything settled down. We took everyone to the Ciccotti Center to go swimming and you and Daddy lounged around the lazy river and you almost fell asleep laying on the noodles!! You are just a chilled out little baby and we just adore you.

You are also starting to look right in the direction of someone when we ask you "Where is Daddy/Grandpa/Grandma/Sue Sue?" You know exactly who we are talking about and you are just so SMART!

One last thing for now - you are eating EVERYTHING that isn't nailed down! I love how brave you are with trying new things. You had some more vanilla ice cream for dessert at Grandma's house last night. I am going to have to get a second job in order to feed you when you get a little bigger!!

Daddy was plowing for most of this weekend. He misses you so much when he is gone. In the 8.5 months since you were born we have had the most extreme weather that I can remember. It has been 85-90 degrees since the day you were born for ALL OF THE SUMMER. And then once winter has hit us it has been bitter cold with extreme low temps and for the whole 2 months of Jan/Feb we have been buried with HUGE snow storms - one right after the other. I welcome the extreme warm temps....but this cold weather is for the birds!!

I love you more than the anticipation of the first 60 degree day of the spring!!

Letter to Grady February 21, 2011

Good Morning my sweet boy!

Let's see...what has happened since the last time I wrote to you? Well, Grandpa had surgery last week on Tuesday (the day you turned 8 months old - how the heck that happened so fast I will never know). Grandpa is fine. But he was very sore and cranky for most of last week. So far, he has not smoked since being out of the hospital ... and I am hoping that you will be the motivation for him to not start it up again. Time will tell. You were an awesome little baby while all of our schedules went haywire trying to help Grandpa out. Have I mentioned how much I LOVE you for just "rolling with the punches"?? haha

We had a pretty low key weekend. Although you went to your FIRST birthday party (for someone that you are not related to)!!! It was very exciting. It was for Kevin McNally (Gail's grandson) and it was a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse themed party...YOUR FAVORITE! You sat in a high chair right next to Kevin and were SUCH a good boy - all you cared about was how fast I could feed you your cake and ice cream (another first for you by the way!) You loved it - as we knew you would. There really hasn't been anything that we have given you to eat thus far that you haven't liked - EXCEPT for peas - but who can blame you there? So there were about 3 or 4 other little kids at the party and I think you were the youngest by about a month and every other baby was moving around pretty good (crawling, walking etc). You are very mobile - you just refuse to actually crawl and would rather be standing while holding onto something or walking while holding someone's hands! It is only a matter of time though!

Sometime on Sunday of this weekend you started to "teethe". You couldn't be consoled no matter what anyone did. You are biting on your fingers, toys and binkies like it will be the last thing you ever do...and you are constantly chewing on your lower lip and you look like a little old man without any teeth when you do that:-) If we pick you up and try to do something with you that you DO NOT want to do at that moment - you sob. If we put you down - you sob. If you are happily playing with something and the mood strikes you - you start to sob! This is the absolute opposite of what your personality normally is...so there is something going on with you. We assume it is teething since you don't have any teeth yet and you are 8 months and 1 week old...but it could also be a growth spurt or a little cold too. You have yet to really be "sick" and you have had your first runny nose/mild congestion for about a week or so. Who knows. You are our "trial and error" baby:-) haha We will all figure it out together.

We went to Sunday dinner at Uncle Leo's house and you put on an eating display for everyone with your pasta and meatballs...to the point that almost everyone at the table asked us if we fed you on a regular basis! haha It was really funny - but it made us second guess ourselves about whether you really were getting enough to eat...And for this response I will refer to the previous paragraph about "trial and error"!!

Monday was worse than Sunday in the teething department...That's all I have to say about that! More of the same with being cranky. Tuesday morning you woke up very happy though - and didn't want to go back to sleep for Daddy after your morning feeding. (you and Daddy get to spend the week together because he is off for winter break) So Daddy sat you down in your crib so he could go get something from the kitchen and I was putting my makeup on in the bathroom so I peeked in at you and you were STANDING up in the crib!! Soooooo Daddy made me order your new crib as soon as I got to work today. You are getting to be more and more of a little monkey! We love you so much and can't believe how big you are getting SOOOOO fast!

OH! And I almost forgot - your newest thing is to shake your head "no" to everyone and everything! Sometimes you use it in context and sometimes you just decided to start shaking your head "no" for no apparent reason...it is really funny! We are having your first sleepover tonight with Molly and Maddy. It should be so fun - and hopefully Molly doesn't drop you on your head with how many times she will be holding you! I'll let you know how that goes.

That's it for now sweet pea...

I love you more than the smell of the first fresh cut grass of the summer,
Mommy

Letter to Grady February 9, 2011

So today is Wednesday, February 9, 2011...and all I can say is you are getting SO BIG. All you want to do right now is stand up while holding onto ANYTHING you can get your hands on. You will be 8 months old in about a week and I have no idea where the time has gone:-( You love love love to eat, you are generally a super happy baby and most importantly - you sleep through the night (and you have since you were about 5 weeks old) which makes mommy and daddy SO much more pleasant to deal with on a daily basis.

I went to NYC yesterday with Grandma, Aunt Meghan and our friend Gail to see a talk show called The Rachael Ray Show and we didn't end up getting in. But we did make the most of the day and walked around and shopped for most of the day. You got to spend the day with Daddy and Pop...Pop was down on the floor playing with you a lot and he was loving every minute of it. You went to lunch with them and ate some of Daddy's sandwich - haha - he doesn't part with his food easily - but somehow you manage to get him to do it with a smile.

I will post a little more about some of your milestones from the past...but for now you are doing the following things already: sitting up unassisted (you have been doing that for almost 2 months now), rolling over (started that at 5 months old), army crawling (just recently started this - but you prefer to just roll back and forth to get you to your destination). You don't really have any interest in crawling...you just want to stand up and hold onto things and side step/walk around. Your legs have been strong since you were born - abnormally strong. And while you were still in the hospital after you were born - you lifted your head off my shoulder and turned it from one side to the other!! You pulled yourself into a standing position about 2 weeks ago without any help from us while you were 2 feet away from me sitting on the shelf of the pack n play and used the side of the PNP to pull yourself up! Let me just say - you startled me with that one. You are very very head strong!! And I have NO IDEA where you get that from! haha

You love to smile and laugh - your Daddy is the best at making you do both of those things because there is nothing that he doesn't do to turn himself inside out to get a laugh out of you. Grandma tries very hard - but it only works some of the time for her...although you do smile/laugh when she is changing your diaper and you pee on her (it happens more regularly than she would like to admit)...she watches you 4 days a week while Mommy is at work but I still get to spend all day on Wednesdays with you...which I look forward to every week!

We took you swimming at the Ciccotti Center a few times in the last couple of weeks. You did get in Pop's pool when you were ITTY BITTY...but you basically just fell asleep floating on the water. You do love the water though - and you walk right into it while holding our hands and then sit on our lap and splash splash splash! You get a little chilly but it only takes a couple of minutes to adjust for you to get really into it! I can't wait for this summer to see you in action at Pop's house!

Grandpa calls you BUG-A-BOO...and if history is any indication...I am sure he will call you that for as long as you let him. He loves you too - he just has a harder time of showing it.

Aunt Meghan calls you Crazy Baby. Daddy (and sometimes Mommy) call you Bubba...I am hoping that changes soon to G or Gray or something better than Bubba...we don't want to give you a complex this early in your life:-)

And I think as I wrap this up for today - I just want to tell you that you and your Daddy are the most important things in my life and I am so thankful for you every.single.day. And I am going to try and let you know that every day. I am so scared that I am going to not do right by you with showing you HOW to show emotions - so that is a promise that I make to you - I will fix that for both of us. If you need to learn before I am able to teach you - just watch your Daddy - he seems to already have it all figured out!!

I love you more than Opening Day of baseball season for the Yankees!

Mommy
